Steam Turbines

Steam turbines are a type of external combustion engine that uses externally generated steam to rotate the turbine generating power or propulsion..

Steam turbines have a long history dating back 2,000 years to a mathematician from ancient Greece who wrote about using steam to rotate a device.
The first practical use of a steam engine was to provide propulsion for a ship in 1897.
Steam turbines in their modern form were invented during the Industrial Revolution in Europe.

Compared to steam-driven piston engines, steam turbines are lighter and more powerful.

Steam turbines are often used in power plants, many over 1,000 megawatts, including nuclear power plants which use large steam turbines driven by the steam generated by the nuclear reactor.

To increase the efficiency of steam turbines, MHPS Takasago Works uses three-dimensional modeling of the blades to develop and manufacture larger blades and protect against the loss of steam flow.
